A brief history of our time

JMA was conceived as a direct result of exposure to the Telecoms sector in the early 2000’s.

Having previously worked in IT recruitment, directors Patrick Judges and Clive Jefferys, came by different routes to recognise the market potential that led to JMA.

1988 Clive Jefferys started a direct sales career in technology and computing solutions. The following year, Patrick Judges started his career as resourcer in IT recruitment with The Span Consultancy.

1991 Clive started his recruitment career at Span, the day after Patrick left to join global recruiter BCL International!

1995 Although offered a management position with BCL, Clive stayed at Span building a corporate career, culminating as London Divisional Manager at Computer People Plc.

2001 Clive took a management position with sales recruiter, The Buzz, and discovered the Telecommunications sector! Meanwhile at BCL, Patrick was now a senior manager launching a new division; Comms People!

2003 JMA was founded as "The Telecoms Sales Recruitment Company" to meet the rapidly rising demand for B2B Sales people with national fixed and mobile resellers. From offices in Fleet Street, Central London, the company grew quickly from two to nine staff, placing over 200 people into the comms sector within 18 months. Major clients included Genesis Communications, Caudwell and British Telecom.

2005 Patrick Judges joined JMA to found “JMA Network” …the engineering recruitment arm of the group. The two JMA companies grew to fifteen staff, completing their 600th placement by the close of 2006. Our notable client list now included Carphone, Opal Telecom, Nortel, Fujitsu, Redstone and NTL.

2007 We focussed our brand under jmanetWork to better illustrate how we connect all job types within the Comms industry; Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Technical, Billings and Back Office. The company relocated to Greenwich and this transition was completed just before the Credit Crunch.

2009 Having retrenched during undeniably hard times, slimmer and fitter, JMA started to witness improvement in recruitment activity. In July 2009 we achieved our 1000th placement, and from September demand grew steadily.

2010 Growing organically, across all job types in Telecoms, JMA achieved a 45% uplift in revenues and profits compared to the previous year. Experienced comms recruitment manager Terry O'Toole joined JMA and took charge of our Sales recruitment team. Our solution broadened to place all types of people into Telecoms companies nationwide and in mainland Europe.

2011 The first half of the year saw a dramatic uplift within sector employment prospects, and we moved to larger premises in Norman House to allow for an increase in our headcount. We created our own Candidate Sales Team , focussing on “headhunting” and Advanced Candidate Matching and Verification. This re-investment in JMA’s inhouse processes allowed our productivity and quality of response to double by year end, with 230% increase in our placement success rate.
